The fan coil system, is one of the mechanical installation systems, works in the heating-cooling category.
In buildings with complex mechanical systems, certain mechanical installation rooms are designed to allow the systems to be intervened from controlled centers. For the fan coil system, a hot water boiler and a cooling group are required in the mechanical room of the building. The hot water boiler forms the hot water supply and the cooling group forms the cold water supply.
Fan coil devices contain 2 elements for adjusting the indoor temperature. Fan and heat transfer surface. Fans draw in the air inside the space and transmit it to the heat transfer surface. If there is hot water on the heat transfer surface, hot air is supplied to the room, if there is cold water, cold air is supplied back to the room. These hot-cold water located on the heat transfer surfaces are transmitted back to the center via return pipes, and after being processed in the boiler or cooling group, they are pumped back to the fan coil devices to control the indoor air temperature. This water in the pipes is in a constant state of circulation until the system starts working and completely shuts down. For this movement of water, circulation pumps are used.
In Fan coil Systems;
Indoor temperature controls are usually carried out with thermostats.
For fan coil manufacturing, an interspace shaft and a space on the ceiling where the fan coil can fit are required.
Attention should be paid to the sound insulation of devices. October systems such as special mixing boxes, silencer can be used for sound insulation.
Each room where fan coil is installed can be controlled independently of the other.
Attention should be paid to the cleanliness of fan coil filters.
For manufacturing in humid areas, drainage pipes should be designed.
If fan coil systems are preferred in places with cold climates, frost protection should be performed inside the system.
The sound-related values of the fan coil system should not be invalidated over time.
If the foil is placed in front of the glass, the air-blowing direction should be designed in a direction that will not disturb the users.
In fancoil systems of large volumes, ceiling-type fancoils should be preferred to ensure air distribution in the room homogeneously.
It is necessary to leave sufficient places for intervention for the maintenance that can be done in the future on my site.
The pipes in the system should be washed with chemicals at intervals to prevent bacterial growth in them.
Fan coils can vary according to the place and capacity they are used. These systems, which are generally preferred in areas with a large number of users, can be preferred in hotels, offices, hospitals, and multi-storey residential buildings. Fan coils are placed in front of glass or inside suspended ceilings. Accordingly, it is classified into floor type and ceiling type.
The heat transfer surface in fan coil systems is called “serpentine”. According to the number of serpentines, fan coils are divided into 2 groups:
Single Serpentine
In this system, there is a single serpentine in the fan coil. There are 2 separate pipes for distribution and collection. A pickup with each fan coil is connected to a delivery pipe. Cold water or hot water can be circulated in the entire fan coil system, but a special solution is required for sudden water changes.
How?
For example, you want to freeze the hot water circulation and reduce the in-room heat. Since there is a single serpentine in the fan coil, the hot water circulation must be stopped first and the cold water circulation must be started. This can lead to excessive energy loss in the system and rapid wear of the system elements. Although a constant temperature level in the spaces works healthily in the desired designs, extra solutions are required in the systems where the temperature changes according to the user's request.
Two Serpentines
In this system, there are two separate serpentines in the fan coil as heating and cooling. 2 Heating and 2 cooling pipes are connected in each serpentine. Thus, hot water and cold water can move independently of each other in the fan coil. This allows the temperature to be changed in the room at any time. Independent heating and cooling operations can be performed in each place with a fan coil.
